Following the removal of petrol subsidies by the Nigerian government, the transportation industry in the country is poised to experience relief. The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has announced that they are 90% prepared to introduce Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as an alternative automotive fuel. This new fuel option is expected to be sold at a price range of N100 to N110 per litre by the end of June.
Elder Chinedu Okoronkwo, the national president of IPMAN, made this announcement during an interview on Channels Television’s Business Morning programme. He emphasized that CNG would serve as a viable alternative to petrol, helping to reduce the cost of energy in Nigeria. Okoronkwo expressed optimism about the imminent rollout of CNG, stating that it would unlock numerous possibilities for the country.
Furthermore, Okoronkwo highlighted the impact of fuel subsidy removal on Nigeria’s progress in adopting alternative energy sources. He explained that IPMAN’s efforts to promote CNG usage have already provided relief to many families by powering vehicles, generators, and even cooking.
The introduction of CNG as an automotive fuel option is expected to alleviate the burden of high petrol prices and offer a more affordable and sustainable energy solution for transportation in Nigeria.
