Manufacturers in Nigeria have intensified efforts to slash raw material import costs by 60 per cent, following a staggering N4.53 trillion spent on imports last year. This bold target was the major point of conversation at the opening of the 2025 Nigeria Manufacturing and Equipment (NME) Expo, held alongside the Nigerian Raw Materials (NIRAM) Expo in Lagos.
The joint event, which kicked off yesterday, is expected to serve as a key platform for promoting local sourcing and scaling up indigenous technologies that can help reduce Nigeria’s heavy reliance on imported raw materials. Organised by the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) in partnership with the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), the three-day expo is aimed at fostering sustainable manufacturing through advanced technological solutions.
With the theme “Accelerating Sustainable Manufacturing Through Cutting-Edge Technology Solutions,” the 2025 NME/NIRAM Expo is drawing together key players in the sector, including equipment manufacturers, raw material producers, local fabricators, and innovators. The event is designed to showcase new technologies, machinery, and innovations that could transform local production and enhance the quality of Nigerian-made goods.
Organisers believe that providing a one-stop shop for industry stakeholders will drive critical conversations, collaborations, and investments toward reducing import dependency and boosting Nigeria’s industrial capacity in a sustainable way.
