The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has concluded a case-by-case review of marginal oil field licences due for renewal, according to Chief Executive Gbenga Komolafe.
Komolafe disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja during his address at the Energy and Labour Summit organised by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), themed “Building a Resilient Oil and Gas Sector in Nigeria: Advancing HSE, ESG, Investment, and Incremental Production.”
He explained that the final list of qualified marginal field operators is currently with the Minister of State for Petroleum (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, for approval before a public announcement is made.
Komolafe emphasized that the review was conducted in line with legal provisions, which require marginal field holders to meet specific milestones for renewal consideration. “We have ensured that no party will receive preferential treatment. The process is transparent and based on performance metrics,” he said.
He further noted that the exercise aligns with the commission’s mandate to strengthen the upstream sector and ensure optimal resource management.
