The Renewed Hope Housing Programme, the flagship housing and urban development initiative of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, is being implemented to tackle Nigeria’s estimated 17 million-unit housing deficit.
Speaking on the progress of the initiative, the Honourable Minister of Housing and Urban Development described it as a bold step to transform the nation’s housing landscape and improve access to affordable homeownership for all Nigerians.
The minister explained that the programme was inspired by the urgent need to reset decades of limited housing access and financing options. Under the Renewed Hope Agenda, the government has committed to ensuring that low-, middle-, and high-income Nigerians alike have a fair opportunity to own decent homes.
The programme is anchored on a three-pronged approach tailored to different income levels. Among these is the development of Renewed Hope Cities—large-scale, master-planned communities of at least 1,000 housing units each in major urban centres. These communities are designed to be more than residential clusters, featuring schools, hospitals, green spaces, and commercial hubs, making them smart and sustainable urban ecosystems.
According to the minister, the initiative reflects President Tinubu’s visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to creating affordable, inclusive, and resilient housing opportunities nationwide.
