President Bola Tinubu has revealed that the Federal Government is in advanced discussions with Ogoni leaders to resolve long-standing disputes that have hindered oil production in the area.
The President disclosed this on Wednesday during the formal commissioning of the Otakikpo Crude Oil Export Terminal in Rivers State.
Tinubu noted that the oil and gas sector remains central to Nigeria’s economic future and will continue to play a dominant role in the world’s energy supply for decades to come, despite the global transition toward cleaner energy sources.
Represented by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, the President said new projections by the International Energy Agency (IEA) affirm the continuing relevance of oil and gas to global energy security.
According to him, the IEA has acknowledged that the world must invest about $540 billion annually in upstream oil and gas development over the next 25 years to prevent an energy crisis.
Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to resolving community disputes and promoting peace in oil-producing regions to unlock the sector’s full potential and attract sustainable investment.
