PenCom Has Achieved the “Impossible” in Pension Reforms

The Director-General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Ms. Omolola Oloworaran, has said that the Commission has implemented pension reforms once considered impossible, building a transparent and sustainable pension system in Nigeria.

Oloworaran stated this at the opening ceremony of the 2025 Customer Service Week held in Abuja, with the theme “Mission Possible.” She said the theme resonates strongly with PenCom’s vision of ensuring that every Nigerian worker — in the public, private, or informal sector — enjoys a secured and dignified retirement life.

Represented by the Acting Commissioner, Inspectorate Department, Samuel Chigoze Uwandu, the PenCom DG noted that the progress achieved was the result of the tireless efforts of the pension industry to pursue continuous improvement in service delivery and stakeholder engagement.

“This approach has reaffirmed our commitment to the people we serve — the contributors, retirees, operators, employers, and other stakeholders who we consider our partners,” she said.

Oloworaran emphasised that every reform and regulation in the pension sector reflects a human story — the trust that millions of Nigerians place in the system to safeguard their future.

“Our duty is to ensure we justify that trust through efficiency, transparency, and responsiveness to those we serve,” she added.

PenCom’s ongoing reforms aim to deepen pension coverage, enhance compliance, and build confidence in the contributory pension scheme as a reliable model for retirement security in Nigeria.
