The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has increased the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, from ₦865 to ₦992 per litre.
As of the time of filing this report, no official reason has been given for the latest price hike.
A visit to several NNPC retail outlets by The Nation revealed that fuel attendants were adjusting their pumps to reflect the new price of ₦992 per litre.
At the NNPC filling station along Ogunusi Road, Ojodu Berger, Lagos, attendants confirmed that they were instructed to change the price to the new rate.
“We were directed to adjust the pump to ₦992 per litre,” one of the attendants told reporters.
However, checks at Ibafo, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, showed that some NNPC outlets still displayed the old price of ₦875 per litre but were not dispensing fuel at the time.
Many NNPC stations across Lagos and Ogun States were also observed to be shut down or not selling to motorists.
The reason for the price adjustment remains unclear, and the NNPCL has yet to release an official statement on the development.
