President Bola Tinubu has said that the Federal Government’s ongoing trade and economic reforms are strategically designed to position Nigeria as a globally competitive market and strengthen its influence within the African continent.
Tinubu made the remarks on Monday at the opening of the maiden Customs Partnership for African Cooperation in Trade Summit held at the State House, Abuja. The President, who was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, emphasised that Nigeria must implement bold changes to unlock economic opportunities across the continent.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the National Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, Abdullahi Maiwada, the President explained that reforms such as exchange rate unification, fuel subsidy removal, port modernisation, and enhanced customs digitalisation are central to building a more efficient and competitive business environment.
Tinubu added that Africa’s prosperity depends on intentional actions that transform its population and large market into a productive and integrated economic system. He urged African countries to dismantle inefficient border systems, modernise customs operations, and embrace a unified trade framework capable of shaping the continent’s economic future.
The administration maintains that its reform strategy will strengthen Nigeria’s standing in regional trade, encourage investment, and improve trade facilitation across sectors.
