Nigeria, Abu Dhabi Ports Group Sign Landmark MoU on Ports and Maritime Collaboration

The Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Abu Dhabi Ports Group to explore strategic collaboration in ports development, maritime logistics and digital solutions.

The development was disclosed on Sunday by the Deputy Director and Head of Public Relations at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Osagie Edward.

According to Edward, the MoU was signed on the sidelines of the recently concluded Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, marking a significant milestone in economic relations between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates.

“Abu Dhabi Ports Group and Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding to explore strategic collaboration in ports development, maritime logistics, and digital solutions,” he said.

He added that the agreement reflects a renewed commitment by both countries to deepen cooperation in the maritime and blue economy sectors.

The Nigerian delegation to the signing ceremony was led by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, while the Chairman of Abu Dhabi Ports Group, Mohamed Hassan, led the company’s management team.

Also present at the event was the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NIMASA, Dr Dayo Mobereola.

Edward further disclosed that the delegation subsequently briefed President Bola Tinubu on the details and strategic importance of the MoU.

The agreement, which had been under consideration for more than two decades, forms part of broader trade and investment engagements between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates and is expected to unlock new opportunities in ports infrastructure, maritime logistics efficiency and digital transformation within Nigeria’s blue economy.
