Governor Sanwo-Olu Signs ₦4.4 Trillion 2026 Lagos State Budget into Law

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday officially signed the ₦4.4 trillion 2026 budget into law, marking a major step toward implementing the state’s development plans for the fiscal year.

The signing ceremony was held at the Conference Room, Lagos House, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja, with the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, members of the State Executive Council, the Head of Service Bode Agoro, lawmakers from the Lagos State House of Assembly, and other stakeholders in attendance.

The Lagos State House of Assembly had earlier approved the appropriation bill in January, authorising the issuance and allocation of ₦4,444,509,776,438 for the 2026 fiscal year. The budget is tagged the “Budget of Shared Prosperity.”

While presenting the appropriation bill to the House in November 2025, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the budget was designed to promote prosperity and ensure that Lagos works for all residents.

“Our mission remains clear: to eradicate poverty and build a Lagos that works for all. Our vision continues to guide every fiscal decision we make—to deliver a Greater Lagos where shared prosperity is not an aspiration but a lived and felt reality,” he said.

The governor highlighted that the 2026 budget is anchored on four pillars: a human-centred approach, modern infrastructure, a thriving economy, and effective governance. These pillars align with the state’s T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda, which guides Lagos’ strategic development plans.
