The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has called on oil-producing states to fully cooperate in the ongoing exercise aimed at resolving disputes over oil and gas wells through the plotting of verified coordinates.
The Chairman of the commission, Dr Mohammed Shehu, made the call on Monday in Abuja at the official flag-off of the plotting of coordinates for disputed and newly drilled oil and gas wells. The exercise, which runs from January 26 to 30, 2026, covers affected oil-producing states across the country.
Shehu said the active participation of the states involved is crucial to ensuring that the outcome of the exercise is credible and acceptable to all parties.
“It is in respect of this development that I urge the representatives of the affected oil-producing states to actively participate while plotting the verified coordinates, so that the outcome would be acceptable to all,” he said.
He assured stakeholders that the commission would conduct the process with neutrality and transparency, stressing that fairness would guide all decisions reached during the exercise.
“I want to assure the affected parties that the commission will be an unbiased umpire and will deploy justice, equity, and fairness for which it is known,” Shehu added.
The coordinate verification exercise is expected to address longstanding disagreements over the location and ownership of oil and gas wells, which have implications for revenue allocation and derivation payments to oil-producing states.
