OPay has been named Fintech Company of the Year 2025 at the Leadership Annual Conference and Awards, held on Thursday at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre.
This marks the second consecutive time OPay has received the honour, having emerged as the only fintech company awarded the same title in 2024.
The award recognises OPay’s leadership in Nigeria’s fintech sector, its focus on innovation, security and accessibility, and its role in expanding financial inclusion for millions of Nigerians and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.
The event attracted prominent personalities, including the First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu; the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed; Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah; former First Lady Patience Jonathan; Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu; and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, among others.
Amina Mohammed delivered a keynote address on the theme, “Political Stability and Sustainable Development in Africa in an Increasingly Unstable Global System: A Roadmap for Nigeria.”
Receiving the award, Vice President of Public and Government Affairs at OPay, Dr Maxwell Loko, described the recognition as an endorsement of the company’s commitment to secure and accessible financial services.
“This award is a strong endorsement of our commitment to building secure and accessible financial services for Nigerians. At OPay, we focus on solving real problems, helping people send money safely, save with confidence and run their businesses better,” he said.
Loko added that the recognition would motivate the company to continue raising standards in innovation, security and customer trust.
Chief Commercial Officer at OPay, Elizabeth Wang, also welcomed the award, saying it reflected the trust customers place in the platform.
“Our goal is to empower people and businesses with tools that support growth, stability and long-term financial confidence,” she said.
Founded in 2018, OPay provides services including money transfers, bill payments, card services, airtime and data purchases, and merchant payments. The company is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and insured by the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, with coverage similar to that of commercial banks.
Organisers said the Leadership Annual Conference and Awards aims to recognise organisations and individuals contributing to national development. OPay’s consecutive wins reinforce its position as a leading force in Nigeria’s fintech ecosystem.
