Julius Berger Nigeria Plc Partners with Renewed Hope Climate Change Awareness Tour to Promote Sustainability

Julius Berger Nigeria Plc has partnered with the Renewed Hope Climate Change Awareness Tour to promote climate resilience and sustainable development across Nigeria.

The initiative was inaugurated at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, on Tuesday. President Bola Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, urged governors, private sector actors, and stakeholders to transform climate awareness into practical action, accelerating Nigeria’s transition to a low-carbon economy.

“Today, we inaugurate a movement, the Renewed Hope Climate Change Awareness Tour. It is a national call to action, a call to innovation, opportunity, and sustainable development for all Nigerians,” Tinubu said, stressing that climate change presents both risks and opportunities for national growth and innovation.

The tour aims to take climate awareness beyond conference halls into communities, engaging traditional rulers, students, innovators, entrepreneurs, farmers, and financial institutions nationwide. It seeks to identify bankable projects, unlock local solutions, strengthen climate finance capacity, and foster public-private partnerships.

Tinubu emphasised that Nigeria’s nationally determined contributions (NDCs) must be matched with action and investment, while urging young Nigerians to take ownership of the climate transition through technology, ideas, and entrepreneurship. “Climate resilience is national security. Leadership is not a budget; it is a result we must accept with confidence,” he said.

Halima Bawa highlighted the urgent need to address climate impacts such as desert encroachment, flooding, coastal erosion, and erratic rainfall affecting farmers. Meanwhile, Yussuf Kelani, Chairman of the REHCCAT Committee, described the tour as a national movement grounded in leadership, collaboration, and commitment to environmental and economic security.

Guest Speaker Prof. Babajide Alo emphasised locally led adaptation, community empowerment, and capacity-building as key strategies for sustainable climate action.

Dr Abdulaziz Kaita noted that Julius Berger has consistently implemented zero-emission practices and sustainable methods in its operations. He added, “As partners in progress with our operational community, that is Nigeria, we identify wholeheartedly with the Renewed Hope Climate Change Awareness Tour.”

Last September, Nigeria submitted its NDC 3.0, committing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 32 per cent by 2035. The country now aims to cut emissions by 29 per cent by 2030 and 32 per cent by 2035 compared to 2018 levels.

The event drew top government officials, presidential aides, private sector leaders, and a strong delegation from Julius Berger Nigeria Plc.
