Wema Bank Plc has appointed Engr. Wilson Chiedu Agu as an independent non-executive director, effective March 3, 2026, following approval by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The announcement was made public through a statement to the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) and the investing public by the Bank’s Company Secretary and General Counsel, Johnson Lebile.
Agu brings over 35 years of professional experience in engineering consultancy, information technology, cybersecurity, and business development. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, earned in 1990.
His career includes leadership roles such as Partner and Resident Engineer at Project Development Consortium (1993–2007), overseeing structural projects for Orient Bank and the National Maritime Resource Centre. In 2000, he founded I-Sixty Nigeria Limited, delivering landmark projects including the NIMASA Maritime Museum, the Nigerian Navy Dockyard Museum, and renovations for eleven airports across Nigeria.
Agu has also contributed to Nigeria’s technology governance, serving on the Governing Board of the National Information Technology Development Agency from 2013 to 2015, where he chaired the Committee on Standards, Guidelines and Regulations and supported implementation of the National IT Policy and COBIT 5 framework. He collaborated with Precise Financial Systems (2018–2020) on banking automation solutions and currently leads Eagle Industrial and Energy Limited, including the Enugu Tech Market project.
In recognition of his contributions, Agu was awarded a Professional Fellowship Doctorate by the Institute of Corporate and Public Administration of Nigeria in 2021 and is a member of the Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria.
