The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) has issued a strong warning to members of the public over a fake recruitment advertisement currently circulating on various online platforms.
The commission said the purported recruitment notice, being shared by fraudulent individuals, is entirely false and did not originate from NAICOM or any of its authorised channels.
In a statement, the insurance regulator clarified that it has not approved any recruitment exercise through the platforms referenced in the viral advertisement and urged the public to disregard the information completely.
NAICOM specifically cautioned job seekers against submitting personal information or making any financial payments in response to the fraudulent recruitment claims.
The commission stressed that its recruitment processes are conducted in line with established public service procedures and are only communicated through official and verified channels.
“Our recruitment process remains structured, verified, and strictly bounded by public service guidelines. We are explicitly warning the public that NAICOM does not engage in recruitment through unofficial or unverified online links, and the agency will always publicise legitimate employment opportunities through reputable, authorised traditional media and government channels,” the commission stated.
NAICOM further advised prospective applicants and members of the public to rely solely on its official communication platforms for accurate information regarding recruitment opportunities and regulatory activities.
According to the commission, any website or portal requesting processing fees, unofficial data submissions, or other forms of payment under the guise of recruitment should be regarded as fraudulent.
“We advise everyone to rely solely on the official communication channels of NAICOM, including our verified website and recognised federal government platforms, for authentic information on recruitment and other regulatory activities. Any portal asking for upfront processing fees or unofficial data submissions is outrightly fraudulent,” the statement added.
The commission also warned individuals and groups responsible for creating and distributing the fake recruitment advertisements that they could face severe legal consequences.
NAICOM disclosed that it is collaborating with law enforcement agencies and cybercrime units to identify and prosecute those behind the scam.
“The Commission further warns that individuals or groups involved in the dissemination of such fraudulent information are engaging in unlawful activities and may be subject to severe legal consequences. We are working closely with cybercrime units to ensure those exploiting innocent job seekers face the full wrath of the law,” it stated.
The regulator encouraged members of the public to report suspicious recruitment advertisements, extortion attempts, or other fraudulent activities carried out in the commission’s name through its official complaint channels and verified online contact platforms.
The warning comes amid growing concerns over online employment scams targeting job seekers across the country, with fraudsters increasingly using the names of government agencies and reputable institutions to deceive unsuspecting victims.
