The Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) closed Monday’s trading session on a bearish note, with the market’s aggregate value declining by N106.24 billion.
The All-Share Index (ASI) fell by 0.07% to close at 242,454.65 points, down from 242,619.20 points recorded at the previous session.
Similarly, equity market capitalisation declined to N156.52 trillion from N156.62 trillion at the previous close.
During the five-day trading window, the ASI reached a high of 246,723.57 points and a low of 242,454.65 points, with the average index point standing at 243,756.38 points.
Performance across several sectoral and thematic indices was largely negative, with the NGX Main-Board Index declining to 10,910.62 points and the NGX 30 Index settling at 8,890.47 points.
The NGX Premium Index also slipped slightly to 28,662.38 points.
Across sector-specific indices, the NGX Banking Index closed at 2,536.29 points, while the NGX Insurance Index settled at 1,112.05 points.
The NGX Industrial Index was virtually flat at 10,378.76 points.
The NGX Consumer Goods Index, however, recorded a gain, rising from 4,037.91 points to 4,055.29 points.
The NGX Sovereign Bond Index also edged higher to 670.82 points.
Trading activity remained strong, with investors exchanging 1.33 billion shares in 45,439 deals during the session.
The Main Board accounted for the bulk of the market’s activity, recording 1.24 billion shares across 25,549 trades.
The Premium Board followed with 72.48 million shares traded in 16,705 transactions.
LASACO Assurance Plc recorded the highest volume of trades with 730.69 million shares changing hands.
Consolidated Hallmark Holdings Plc followed with 154.26 million shares, while Cornerstone Insurance Plc recorded 106.11 million shares.
On the gainers’ list, Trans-Nationwide Express Plc led with a 9.86% increase to close at N3.12 per share.
AVA Capital Plc rose 9.72% to N7.90 per share, while Thomas Wyatt Nigeria Plc advanced 9.09% to N3.00 per share.
Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc also recorded a strong gain of 8.60%, closing at N70.10 per share.
On the other hand, RT Briscoe Plc and Fortis Global Insurance Plc came under selling pressure, with both stocks declining by nearly 10%.
RT Briscoe closed at N10.45 per share, while Fortis Global Insurance settled at N2.37 per share.
NEM Insurance Plc fell 8.83% to close at N30.45 per share, while Cutix Plc declined 6.53% to N2.29 per share.
The session reflected a broadly cautious market, with losses across key indices outweighing gains in selected sectors and stocks.
