The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has revealed that it now processes close to 10,000 business registration requests daily, a significant increase from the “few hundreds” recorded in its early years, following the full deployment of artificial intelligence across its service platforms.
The Registrar-General of the commission, Hussaini Magaji, disclosed this on Monday in Abuja at the opening ceremony of CAC’s 35th anniversary celebration.
Magaji, however, acknowledged that the transition to an AI-driven registration portal in 2025 came with disruptions that temporarily affected productivity and service delivery.
He described the commission’s 35-year milestone as a defining moment in Nigeria’s drive towards economic formalisation, noting that the anniversary reflects the institution’s resilience, teamwork, and steady evolution since its establishment.
The anniversary event, themed “Upholding Public Trust through Excellent Service Delivery,” highlighted CAC’s journey from a manual registry to a fully digitised institution.
The commission was established in 1991 under the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) of 1990 to replace the then inefficient Company Registry. As an autonomous government agency, CAC is responsible for the incorporation and regulation of companies, business names, and incorporated trustees in Nigeria. Its operations were further strengthened by the enactment of CAMA 2020.
According to Magaji, CAC has now transformed into a fully digital, end-to-end registry that is accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week, both within Nigeria and globally.
He added that the adoption of advanced technology, including artificial intelligence, has positioned the commission to better support ease of doing business, enhance transparency, and improve service delivery for entrepreneurs and investors.
