Champion Breweries Plc on Wednesday announced the successful completion of its acquisition of the Bullet brand portfolio from Sun Mark, describing the transaction as a transformative milestone in its strategic expansion into a diversified, pan-African beverage platform.
In a statement, the company said the acquisition, earlier announced on August 20, 2025, grants Champion ownership of the Bullet brand assets, trademarks, formulations, and global commercial rights through an asset carve-out structure.
The assets are now held in a newly incorporated entity in the Netherlands, where Champion holds a majority interest, while Vinar N.V. retains a minority stake.
Bullet products are currently distributed in 14 African markets, positioning Champion to scale beyond Nigeria in the fast-growing ready-to-drink alcoholic and energy drink segments.
The company noted that the expansion significantly broadens its addressable market and strengthens its revenue base with an established portfolio that already enjoys strong brand recognition and consumer loyalty across multiple markets.
Bullet Black is described as Nigeria’s leading ready-to-drink alcoholic beverage, while Bullet Blue has established a solid footprint in the energy drink category across several African countries.
According to Champion, the acquisition accelerates its transition from a regional brewing company to a multi-category consumer platform with continental reach.
The deal is also expected to enhance foreign exchange earnings, expand distribution leverage, create supply chain efficiencies, and diversify the company’s portfolio into high-growth beverage categories.
Champion added that the transaction structure allows rapid integration without significant upfront manufacturing capital expenditure, while creating a pathway to future Nigerian production capacity that could position the country as a regional export hub.
The acquisition was supported by the company’s recent equity capital-raising initiatives, including its Rights Issue and Public Offer.
Commenting on the milestone, Chairman of Champion Breweries, Mr Imo-Abasi Jacob, said the successful equity raises and completion of the Bullet acquisition marked a defining moment for the company.
“The support we received from both existing shareholders and new investors reflects strong confidence in our long-term strategy to build a diversified, high-growth beverage platform with pan-African scale,” he said.
Champion expressed appreciation to the Securities and Exchange Commission, Nigerian Exchange Group, Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, and the Akwa Ibom State Government for their guidance throughout the process.
It also acknowledged its financial and legal advisers, including Rand Merchant Bank Nigeria Limited, which acted as Co-ordinating Financial Adviser and Lead Issuing House, and Banwo and Ighodalo, which served as Lead Legal Adviser.
The brewer reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, disciplined growth, strong governance, and sustainable value creation as it embarks on a new phase of continental expansion.
