The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) has called on the federal government to ensure the effective implementation of ongoing tax reform bills, stressing their importance to Nigeria’s economic future.
Mr. Samuel Agbeluyi, the 16th President of the institute, said proper execution of these reforms would not only reinforce key federal policy actions like the fuel subsidy removal, but also chart a course for long-term economic stability.
He made this statement during the 33rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the Tax Professionals’ House, Alausa, Ikeja.
This year’s AGM served a dual purpose: it provided an opportunity to review the institute’s achievements over the past year and marked a leadership transition, with Mr. Innocent Ohagwa announced as the incoming president, succeeding Mr. Agbeluyi.
In his opening remarks, Agbeluyi gave a detailed account of his presidential year. Highlights of his tenure included:
- Hosting the 27th Annual Tax Conference with a record 3,671 participants
- Inaugurating new district societies in Maiduguri, Lafia, and North America
- Admitting 2,836 new members into the institute
Agbeluyi acknowledged the challenges encountered but celebrated the institute’s resilience and growth, both locally and internationally.
With the baton now passed to Mr. Ohagwa, the CITN is poised to continue its advocacy for a more efficient, transparent, and development-focused tax system.
