The Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, has said that the upcoming Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP30), organized by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), will further strengthen bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and Brazil, particularly on the implementation of the Paris Agreement.
Lawal made this known during a courtesy visit by the Brazilian Ambassador to Nigeria, Carlos Garcete, and his delegation to the Federal Ministry of Environment in Abuja.
He noted that Nigeria and Brazil have long enjoyed cordial relations spanning trade, culture, tourism, and economic development since Nigeria’s independence, adding that COP30 presents a new platform to expand collaboration on climate change adaptation, mitigation, biodiversity, and ecosystem sustainability.
“Nigeria and Brazil have enjoyed bilateral cooperation in trade, culture, tourism, and economic growth since independence. We believe this partnership will further grow as we harness new areas of collaboration during COP30,” Lawal stated.
The Minister praised Brazil for its commitment to environmental sustainability and congratulated the country for securing hosting rights for both the COP30 and the G20 Summit.
Lawal also commended the resumption of direct flights between Nigeria and Brazil, describing it as a positive step that will enhance economic, cultural, and environmental cooperation between the two nations.
He reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to work closely with Brazil and other partners at COP30 to advance global climate goals and promote shared prosperity through green growth.
