Dangote Petroleum Refinery has dismissed recent reports suggesting it imports finished Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) into Nigeria, describing the claims as inaccurate and misleading.
In a statement on Monday, February 9, 2026, the refinery said the misinformation was addressed during an S&P Global forum in the United Kingdom, where the company’s pivotal role in Nigeria’s refining sector was recognised.
The refinery emphasised that it imports only feedstocks and blending components, such as high-sulphur reformates, low-RON condensates, and high-sulphur cracked gasoline. These materials require further processing before meeting market specifications. Dangote stated that misrepresenting these intermediate products as “fuel” or “gasoline” distorts public understanding of Nigeria’s domestic refining progress.
“This propaganda is being promoted by unpatriotic and unscrupulous individuals who cannot afford to see Nigeria stop imports,” the company said, adding that those responsible will face legal consequences.
Dangote Refinery reaffirmed that the only gasoline it supplies to the Nigerian market is Euro 5-compliant PMS, which undergoes rigorous quality checks to ensure the highest standards. Since operations began, the refinery has improved fuel quality in Nigeria and reduced reliance on low-grade imported gasoline.
The company urged S&P Global and other industry stakeholders to ensure technical accuracy and balance in reporting, highlighting the impact such narratives have on international perceptions. Dangote Petroleum Refinery reiterated its commitment to energy security, environmental sustainability, and economic transformation through world-class refining operations.
