The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has handed over almost N4 billion recovered from fraudulent activities to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
At a brief ceremony in Abuja on Thursday, EFCC Secretary Mohammed Hammajoda, representing Chairman Ola Olukoyede, presented a cheque of N3.94 billion to NNPCL officials.
Hammajoda said the recovery was the result of “diligent investigation and professional uncovering” of fraudulent activities linked to certain actors within the national oil company. He added that the handover reinforced ongoing efforts to sanitise Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
He further reaffirmed the EFCC’s commitment to tackling economic and financial crimes, highlighting the sacrifices of personnel in ensuring public resources are protected.
Receiving the funds, NNPCL’s Executive Vice President, Downstream, Mumuni Dagazau, described the recovery as a significant milestone. He emphasised that the collaboration between the oil company and anti-graft authorities has improved transparency and addressed systemic lapses.
“The development reflects efforts within NNPCL to strengthen transparency and correct systemic lapses,” Dagazau said, underlining the company’s commitment to accountability in the sector.
The handover is seen as a step toward reinforcing financial integrity in Nigeria’s critical oil and gas industry.
