FirstBank Basketball Club of Nigeria, popularly known as the “Elephant Girls”, have clinched a coveted place in the final round of the Women’s Basketball League Africa (WBLA), scheduled to hold in Cairo, Egypt, from December 5 to 14, 2025.
The Nigerian champions delivered a spectacular showing at the FIBA Africa Zone 3 Qualifiers in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, where they won all three games to emerge unbeaten. As Nigeria’s sole representative, the Elephant Girls overcame stiff competition from Côte d’Ivoire, Liberia, Benin Republic, Ghana, and Togo. Their flawless campaign featured a commanding 66–55 victory over home favourites CSA of Côte d’Ivoire, and a dramatic 63–59 comeback win against FBA of Côte d’Ivoire after trailing by 20 points in the second quarter.
Their exceptional performance—defined by resilience, discipline, skill, and mental fortitude—marks a triumphant return to continental basketball after a six-year break. Emerging as Zone 3 champions and the only English-speaking team to advance, the Elephant Girls have once again underscored FirstBank’s unwavering commitment to the growth of women’s sports in Nigeria and across Africa.

The Elephant Girls qualified for the Zone 3 tournament after securing a Silver Medal at the Zenith NBBF Women’s Premier League. With their ticket to Cairo now confirmed, the team is set to proudly represent Nigeria once again, aiming to make history in the final round of the WBLA.
