Nigeria’s Federation Account recorded a significant inflow of ₦1.49 trillion in the first half of 2025 from arrears reconciled and remitted by key revenue-generating agencies, fresh data from the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) has revealed.
A report by the FAAC Post-Mortem Sub-Committee (PMSC), which reviews remittances from statutory bodies, indicated that these inflows came from previously outstanding arrears owed by major agencies. These include the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), and other statutory contributors to the Federation Account.
According to the report obtained by THISDAY, the cumulative reconciled arrears amounted to ₦1,490,778,578,480.61 between January and June 2025. This represents an average monthly inflow of over ₦248 billion, providing the government with additional fiscal relief at a time of mounting debt service obligations.
Breakdown of the figures shows that January 2025 recorded the highest single-month inflow of ₦367.37 billion, followed by ₦227.15 billion in February, and ₦175.99 billion in March. The trend underscores ongoing efforts to enhance transparency and improve revenue collection for national development.
