The Federal Government on Tuesday formally unveiled the National Single Window project, marking a major step toward reforming Nigeria’s trade ecosystem and improving the ease of doing business.

Speaking at a media briefing in Apapa, Lagos, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, described the launch as a key milestone under the economic reform agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

He explained that the initiative signals a transition from fragmented and inefficient trade processes to a more coordinated and technology-driven system. According to Edun, the platform is designed to significantly reduce the time and cost associated with import and export transactions while enhancing transparency and operational efficiency.

“This is a defining moment. We are moving from complexity to clarity, from fragmentation to coordination, and from delay to efficiency,” Edun stated.

The National Single Window project is expected to streamline trade procedures across multiple government agencies, providing a unified platform for processing documentation and approvals. This, in turn, will support businesses operating within Nigeria by reducing bureaucratic bottlenecks and improving turnaround times.

However, Edun cautioned that the success of the initiative would not rely solely on digital innovation. He emphasized the need for improvements in physical infrastructure, particularly at the nation’s ports.

“A digital platform alone does not move goods,” he said, noting that persistent inefficiencies in port operations could undermine the anticipated benefits of the system.

The government expressed optimism that, alongside ongoing infrastructure upgrades, the National Single Window will enhance trade competitiveness and attract more investment into the country.
