In a renewed push to revive Nigeria’s cotton, textile, and garment (CTG) industry, the Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Senator John Owan Enoh, has carried out an inspection tour of major textile facilities in Kaduna State. This initiative forms a core component of the federal government’s broader industrial recovery plan, aligned with Agenda 7 of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 8-point agenda, which prioritises job creation, inclusive economic growth, and long-term industrial sustainability.
A statement from the ministry confirmed that the federal government has been engaging stakeholders to resolve persistent industry challenges, foster stronger public-private partnerships, and work alongside development agencies to enhance policy frameworks. These efforts are aimed at expanding Nigeria’s industrial base and improving the sector’s capacity for export growth.
During the tour, Senator Enoh highlighted the importance of reviving the iconic United Nigeria Textiles Limited (UNTL), stressing that bringing the company back to full-scale operations would signal renewed investor confidence in Nigeria’s rich textile heritage. He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to repositioning the CTG sector as a vital engine of inclusive economic growth, capable of transforming communities and driving sustainable development.
