The Federal Government, through the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI), has announced that 175 new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) refilling stations will be completed across Nigeria within the next 12 to 18 months.
Michael Oluwagbemi, Programme Coordinator of PCNGI, disclosed this in a video shared via the PCNGI’s X handle on Sunday. He noted that the new stations will significantly reduce the stress Nigerians currently face in accessing CNG for transportation.
Oluwagbemi expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far, pointing out that the number of operational CNG stations in the country has grown from just 11 in early 2024 to 65 as of 2025.
“There’s no doubt in my mind that we are in a much better place than we were when we kicked off this programme this time last year,” he said. “We’ve used the better part of last year to launch an intense conversion programme after a nationwide awareness campaign.”
The initiative is expected to promote cleaner energy use in the transportation sector, create jobs, and support Nigeria’s energy transition goals.
