The Federal Government has disbursed a total of N1.6 trillion to state governments and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) between March 2024 and May 2025 to support infrastructure and security projects across the country.
According to official records from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF), the funds were released under a special intervention programme aimed at enhancing subnational development and tackling security challenges.
The 15-month disbursement was designed to address critical infrastructure gaps and boost security operations at the grassroots level. The intervention was funded through non-oil revenue savings, as part of broader efforts to reduce fiscal strain on states and expedite capital project delivery.
Details of the disbursement were contained in internal OAGF documents submitted at the May 2025 meeting of the Federal Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC). At the meeting, a total of N1.659 trillion was shared among the three tiers of government — a N22 billion drop compared to N1.681 trillion shared in April.
The initiative reflects the Federal Government’s ongoing strategy to deepen economic resilience and ensure more efficient resource allocation at the subnational level.
