The Federal Government, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), has reaffirmed its dedication to achieving food security in Nigeria.
Senator Abubakar Kyari, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, disclosed this during a courtesy visit to his office by Mrs. Dede Ekoue, the Country Representative of IFAD in Nigeria, held in Abuja.
He acknowledged IFAD’s long-standing partnership with Nigeria since 1985 in the pursuit of reducing rural poverty. He emphasized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to implement programs and policies that will bolster food security, job creation, and poverty eradication.
The Kyari expressed gratitude to IFAD for its support and the opportunities it has provided to Nigeria. He acknowledged that Nigeria faces numerous challenges and welcomed contributions and assistance to ensure food availability for the population. He also highlighted that four out of President Tinubu’s eight-point agenda focus on food security, underscoring the critical role the Ministry plays in achieving these objectives.
Furthermore, Minister Kyari noted that Nigeria’s agricultural yield has been adversely affected by factors such as insecurity, floods, and climate change. Therefore, the country seeks assistance and collaboration with international partners to address these challenges and enhance food production.
The commitment of the Federal Government and IFAD to addressing food security issues reflects their joint effort to combat poverty, stimulate economic growth, and ensure a more secure and prosperous future for Nigeria.
