The Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment is actively pursuing a series of policy and institutional reforms to enhance good governance and improve Nigeria’s labour administration systems, in alignment with international best practices.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammadu Dingyadi, on Wednesday at the 68th Annual General Meeting of the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) held in Ikeja, Lagos. Dingyadi was represented by the ministry’s Zonal Director (South West), Meye Badijo.
According to the Minister, the ongoing reforms are designed to address several critical areas, including:
- Strengthening legal and policy frameworks for occupational safety and health
- Improving national productivity
- Institutionalising social dialogue mechanisms
- Mainstreaming gender inclusivity
- Enhancing labour inspection and compliance systems
- Extending social protection to vulnerable workers
“At the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, we are actively implementing a range of policy and institutional reforms to provide good governance and improve the various components of our labour administration in line with international best practices,” Dingyadi said.
The Minister noted that these reforms are integral to creating a more equitable, safe, and productive workplace environment, especially in the face of evolving labour market challenges and the push for economic diversification.
Labour stakeholders welcomed the reforms, calling for continuous engagement between government, employers, and workers to ensure implementation leads to tangible workplace improvements across sectors.
