The Federal Government has inaugurated an Inter-Agency Technical Committee for the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) Programme as part of efforts to boost agro-industrialisation and attract private sector investment.
Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Marcus Ogunbiyi, said the committee would provide technical guidance, ensure effective coordination between agencies, and manage information sharing among stakeholders to support the smooth implementation of the SAPZ initiative.
In a statement released over the weekend, Ogunbiyi described the establishment of the committee as an important milestone in the coordinated implementation and execution of the SAPZ Programme.
He explained that the scheme represents a strategic approach to unlocking Nigeria’s vast agricultural potential through cluster-based development and integrated infrastructure that connects farmers to processors, markets, and industries.
Reaffirming the ministry’s commitment, Ogunbiyi assured that the Federal Government will continue to provide the enabling environment, leadership, and institutional support needed to ensure the programme achieves its mandate.
He further outlined the terms of reference for the committee, which include:
- Providing technical guidance on implementation strategies;
- Identifying and addressing technical gaps and recommending solutions;
- Ensuring alignment of sectoral policies and programmes with the objectives of the SAPZ initiative.
The SAPZ Programme is a flagship initiative designed to drive inclusive economic growth, create jobs, and enhance food security by transforming Nigeria’s agricultural value chain through industrialisation and innovation.
