The Federal Government has inaugurated a new committee to develop a comprehensive strategic plan of action aimed at unlocking greater economic potential in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
The committee, inaugurated on Thursday in Abuja, is tasked with producing a Strategic Plan for 2025–2030, a Petroleum Sector Roadmap, and a Monitoring and Evaluation Framework to guide policy implementation, budgeting, and stakeholder coordination across the industry.
Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Dr. Emeka Vitalis Obi, said the new plan would serve as an operational blueprint to reposition the ministry and its agencies for sustainable growth and improved performance.
“The new Strategic Plan will strengthen inter-agency coordination among key stakeholders such as the NNPC Limited, NUPRC, NMDPRA, and the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI),” Obi stated.
He explained that the framework would integrate Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) reforms while setting measurable performance indicators in gas monetisation, domestic refining, energy transition, and fiscal optimisation.
The Permanent Secretary further noted that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on economic diversification, job creation, and energy access for national development.
The committee is expected to submit its final report before the end of the first quarter of 2025.
