The Federal Government has announced that the full-year 2024 Budget Performance Report will be published by the end of September 2025. The release will also include consolidated reports for the first and second quarters of 2025.
The disclosure was made in Abuja by the Budget Office of the Federation (BoF) through its Director General, Tanimu Yakubu, in a statement issued over the weekend.
According to the BoF, the delay in releasing the Budget Implementation Reports (BIRs) stemmed from two major factors: the extensive verification and reconciliation exercise and the ongoing transition to an extended fiscal framework.
The office explained that the verification and reconciliation process took longer than expected due to the scope and nationwide spread of appropriated projects. The reports, it emphasized, are not just accounting summaries, but combine expenditure data with physical verification of projects across the country. This required extensive field missions and reconciliations with implementing agencies.
On the second factor, the BoF noted that preparing reports under the old budget cycle, while policy discussions were already pointing toward a longer fiscal horizon, would have created inconsistencies and misled stakeholders.
With the upcoming release, the Budget Office assured stakeholders of improved fiscal transparency and more reliable data to guide policy formulation and implementation.
