In line with its commitment to promoting sports and developmental initiatives, First Bank of Nigeria Limited has announced its partnership with the organizers of the E1 Lagos GP, the country’s first all-electric powerboat racing championship, scheduled to hold from October 3 to 5, 2025.
Speaking at the E1 Lagos GP Stakeholder Immersion session in Lagos, Olayinka Ijabiyi, Acting Group Head, Marketing and Corporate Communication at FirstBank, reaffirmed the bank’s dedication to initiatives that support human development and lasting legacies.
“Our involvement in the E1 Lagos GP is about driving legacy and enabling passions that unite Nigerians. As a bank that has operated for over 131 years, we recognize that sports inspire and elevate our people. Through our First@Sports initiative, we continue to invest in platforms that foster unity and development,” Ijabiyi said.
He highlighted FirstBank’s longstanding sports legacy, including hosting the Georgian Polo Cup for 105 years and supporting the Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship for 64 years. The bank’s sponsorship of the E1 Lagos GP will also align with its annual DecemberIssaVybe campaign, designed to celebrate Nigerian culture, entertainment, and lifestyle during the festive season.
Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, lauded the initiative, noting that the championship will not only boost sports development but also showcase Lagos’s vibrant culture and global relevance.
The Lagos GP will feature teams owned by international stars including Tom Brady, LeBron James, Didier Drogba, Will Smith, Marc Anthony, Steve Aoki, and Rafael Nadal. The Lagos leg precedes the season’s grand finale in Miami, United States.
