FirstBank, West Africa’s premier financial institution and a leader in financial inclusion services, has launched a major upgrade to its mobile banking application, FirstMobile. The highlight of this upgrade is the introduction of facial biometric technology for secure and seamless app registration and access.
The new facial recognition feature allows users—especially new customers, diaspora users, and individuals without access to physical cards—to securely sign up and activate the mobile app using only their face. With anti-spoofing technology embedded, the bank has taken extra steps to ensure enhanced protection against fraud and unauthorized access.
Other key features introduced include:
- Virtual credit cards for safer online shopping
- Instant credit card activation via the app
- Flexible salary advance options with 3-month repayment periods
- System-wide improvements and bug fixes for better performance
These additions aim to improve the digital banking experience by enabling secure transactions, instant credit access, and round-the-clock convenience for all users, regardless of location or access to physical banking tools.
“With these new services now live on FirstMobile, we are confident we will undoubtedly enhance our customers’ digital experience,” said Chukwuma Ezirim, Group Executive, E-Business and Retail Products Division at FirstBank.
He emphasized the bank’s dedication to innovation and customer satisfaction, stating:
“We understand the importance of keeping up with the evolving digital landscape, and we are committed to making banking simpler, faster, and more accessible.”
FirstBank continues to solidify its position as a digital banking trailblazer by investing in technologies that empower users, protect data, and promote seamless financial services for millions across and beyond Nigeria.
