Association of Childhood Education Practitioners, ACEP, commiserates with the family of Hanifa Abubakar on the sad and gruesome murder of their 5 year old.
Speaking National President Hajia Islamiat Olaitan Oshodi, ACEP commends the swift action of the authorities, which resulted in the quick identification and arrest of the culprits.
”We await eagerly for justice to take its full course in accordance with the laws of the land.ACEP calls for a reconsideration of the state government’s directive that all private schools’ registration be withdrawn and closed down for re-registration.
‘We appeal to the Governor Ganduje to recognize that private schools exist because the government is unable to satisfy citizens’ demand for education at the quality parents desire. Therefore, private schools should be seen as partners, while the bad eggs should be identified and dealt with within the laws of the land.
“We understand the Governor Abdullah Ganduje ’s concern about safety in the school system, but as education practitioners, we caution against school closure under any guise even if for a short duration- “Oshodi said.”
School remains the best place for children to be safe from roaming the streets, get the education that turns them into productive citizens and acquire the non-academic skills they need to succeed in society. Interruption of the learning process, no matter for how long, creates learning deficits, many children end up roaming the streets, never to return to the classroom.”
“The detrimental impact is on the individuals, their families and society. ACEP believes that re-registration or any form of inspection of schools can take place without disrupting school life.
ACEP welcomes the government’s plan to set up a committee to review and validate the licenses of private schools in the state.
As the foremost education NGO, we stand ready to support the work of the government in this regard, and our members are ready willing and able to provide their professional inputs.
