House Committee Approves N774.77bn Budget for NIMASA in 2025

The House of Representatives Committee on Maritime Safety, Education and Administration has approved the 2025 budget proposal of ₦774.77 billion for the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) following a budget defence session at the National Assembly.

The session, led by Committee Chairperson Hon. Khadija Abba-Ibrahim, featured a detailed presentation by NIMASA’s Executive Director of Finance and Administration, Chidi Offodile, who represented Director-General Dr. Dayo Mobereola.

Offodile revealed that the agency projects ₦774.66 billion in revenue for 2025, but after statutory deductions—including federal remittances and maritime fund contributions—only ₦264.96 billion will be available for actual operations.

He identified key revenue sources as freight levies, offshore waste management services, sea protection charges, and ship registration fees. He also noted that NIMASA is exploring new income streams through enhanced automation systems, the launch of a modular floating dock, and strategic international collaborations, including with the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Committee expressed satisfaction with the agency’s performance and plans, highlighting the importance of effective maritime governance in Nigeria’s broader economic development.
