MTN Nigeria has announced the departure of Mazen Mroue from his position as a non-executive director, effective February 27, 2026, according to a filing submitted to the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX).
The telecom company said Mroue’s decision to step down will allow him to focus on other priorities within MTN Group Limited. “The Board wishes to express its appreciation to Mr. Mroue for his immense service to MTN Nigeria and wishes him success in his future endeavours,” the statement read.
Mroue joined MTN Nigeria’s board on June 1, 2022, and has held several leadership roles across the MTN Group, including CEO of MTN Uganda and MTN Liberia, as well as non-executive director roles at MTN Cyprus and leadership positions at MTN Ghana. In February 2022, he was appointed Group Chief Technology and Information Officer at MTN Group, overseeing technology strategy, governance, and implementation.
Prior to that, Mroue served as Chief Operating Officer of MTN Nigeria from August 2018 to January 31, 2022, during which he also sat on the board of the MTN Nigeria Foundation.
The announcement comes shortly after MTN Nigeria reported a strong financial turnaround for 2025, posting a profit before tax of N1.70 trillion, compared with a pre-tax loss of N550.3 billion in 2024. The recovery reflects improved foreign exchange management and marks one of the company’s strongest earnings rebounds in history.
