The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has commenced the formulation of the third phase of the National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS). This new phase, covering the period from 2024 to 2028, aims to provide a comprehensive framework for the systematic and coordinated advancement of statistical activities in the country. The overarching goal is to enhance the quality, relevance, and accessibility of statistical data, which is vital for evidence-based decision-making, policy formulation, and national development planning.
Speaking at the National Stakeholders Engagement Workshop for Drafting NSDS Phase III, Prince Adeyemi Adeniran, the Statistician General (SG) of the Federation, outlined the agency’s commitment to embarking on a transformative journey in the formulation of a new National Strategy for Statistical Development in Nigeria. He stressed that this strategy will act as a guiding beacon, steering the NBS towards a modernized and improved statistical system.
Adeniran emphasized the significance of data in today’s era and highlighted the responsibility to shape Nigeria’s future based on the path chosen today. He views the development of this new strategy as a unique opportunity to evaluate the past, comprehend the present, and chart a course for the nation’s statistical future.
The third phase of NSDS will play a crucial role in strengthening the country’s statistical capabilities and ensuring that accurate, relevant, and easily accessible data is readily available to support informed decision-making and foster national development planning.
