The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Felix Ogbe, has called on leading indigenous oil and gas service providers to channel their expertise into the deepwater segment of the industry, where new opportunities are emerging.
Ogbe made the appeal during an inspection tour of West African Ventures Nigeria Limited’s (WAV) fabrication yard, machine shop, and jetties at the Federal Ocean Terminal, Onne, Rivers State.
He noted that while most indigenous companies have built strong capacity in onshore and shallow-water operations, the industry is gradually shifting to deepwater, where global oil majors are increasingly directing their investments.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by NCDMB’s General Manager of Corporate Communications, Obinna Ezeobi, the NCDMB boss commended WAV’s facilities and contributions to the oil and gas sector. He described the firm as a model of local competence, demonstrating that Nigerian companies are ready to take on more complex offshore projects.
“You have worked hard; you are a very good company,” Ogbe said, recalling his days as construction manager at Chevron Nigeria Limited, when he awarded WAV its first offshore pipe-laying contract—a project he confirmed was delivered successfully.
