Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has emphasized the significant transportation advantages that the Oruma rigid pavement road in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State will offer. This key infrastructure project is expected to function as a crucial by-pass route, benefiting communities in both Rivers and Bayelsa States. The NDDC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Pius Ughakpoteni, conveyed this information in a statement issued on Monday.
Dr. Ogbuku made these remarks during an inspection of the Oruma Road, where he was accompanied by NDDC Directors and engineers. He also revealed that the commission is expediting construction efforts to ensure the road’s completion and subsequent commissioning next month.
The Oruma Road connects to another essential NDDC project, the 23.5-kilometer Otuasega-Obedum-Emelego Road and its associated bridges. This road network plays a vital role in connecting communities between Bayelsa and Rivers, effectively enhancing regional transportation.
Dr. Ogbuku underscored that completing this road project is part of the NDDC management’s commitment to finishing all ongoing projects in the Niger Delta region. He highlighted the road’s significance, particularly for local farmers who will be able to transport their agricultural produce to urban centers and towns for sale.
The development of such infrastructure aligns with the NDDC’s mission to enhance regional connectivity and facilitate the movement of goods and people, ultimately contributing to the socio-economic development of the Niger Delta region.
