The Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC) has provided clarifications regarding recent power allocation shortfalls and subsequent disruptions experienced by the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (Eko DisCo) and Aba Power Limited Electric (APLE). The disruptions were attributed to scheduled maintenance activities on gas facilities conducted by NDPHC’s gas suppliers.
The NDPHC sources its gas from Seplat and Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL), making the power supply contingent on the operational status of these gas suppliers. Any disruptions in the operations of Seplat and CNL directly affect the supply of gas to NDPHC, consequently impacting power generation and distribution.
In a statement released by NDPHC’s media adviser, Adesanya Adejokun, it was confirmed that the scheduled maintenance activities temporarily affected NDPHC’s operations, leading to the temporary disruption of power supply to Eko DisCo and APLE.
However, the statement also noted that both Eko DisCo and APLE have alternative power sources aside from NDPHC. These power distribution companies are connected to the national grid, designed to ensure power distribution stability even during NDPHC disruptions caused by unforeseen circumstances.
The explanation provided sheds light on the interconnected nature of Nigeria’s power supply chain, with gas facilities playing a pivotal role in supporting electricity generation.
