Nigeria and Germany have renewed their long-standing bilateral relationship with fresh commitments to cooperation in strategic sectors, including energy, trade, and migration governance.
Deputy Chair of the SPD Parliamentary Group in the German Bundestag, Mr. Armand Zorn, announced the plans during a meeting with labour representatives organised by Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) in Lagos. Zorn reaffirmed Germany’s recognition of Nigeria as a strategic partner in sub-Saharan Africa, noting that the country is Berlin’s second-largest trading partner in the region.
The discussions focused on expanding economic cooperation, strengthening development partnerships, and creating structured legal pathways for migration. According to Zorn, Germany sees Nigeria as a crucial partner in promoting regional stability, democratic governance, and economic growth in West Africa.
He added that Berlin is committed to advancing mutual interests through targeted investments, technology partnerships, and frameworks that ensure migration is managed legally and sustainably.
