The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has disclosed that Nigeria is now exporting fabrication services to the Middle East and several African countries, a development that highlights the country’s growing industrial capacity.
The achievement stems from the implementation of the Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act, 2010, which was enacted to build local capacities and capabilities within the oil and gas sector.
Executive Secretary of the NCDMB, Mr. Omatshola Ogbe, made the revelation during a workshop organised for media stakeholders and youth groups in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Delivering a presentation titled “NCDMB Mandate and Achievements”, Ogbe — represented by Dr. Abdulmalik Halilu, Director of Corporate Services — said the workshop was crucial as the mass media, youth organisations, and civil society groups continue to hold public institutions accountable.
Halilu further explained that Nigeria currently operates about 50 world-class fabrication yards, resulting in excess capacity that is now being exported abroad, particularly to markets in the Middle East and across Africa.
He stressed that this progress reflects the success of Nigeria’s local content policy, positioning the country as not just a consumer of oil and gas infrastructure, but also a regional exporter of fabrication expertise.
