Trade relations between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) reached a record $4.3bn for non-oil commodities in 2024
Speaking during a courtesy visit by Master’s students from the Department of Diplomacy and Strategic Studies at the University of Lagos, the UAE Consul-General in Lagos, Salem Al Jaberi, described Africa as a unique hub for business investments. He noted that the UAE in 2024 held the second-highest foreign direct investment rating on the continent.
Highlighting Nigeria’s importance as a strategic partner, Al Jaberi said the UAE Consulate General in Lagos — the first in Africa — underscores Lagos’s status as the region’s economic capital.
“The trade relations between the UAE and Nigeria reached $4.3bn for non-oil commodities in 2024. However, the numbers could be much higher with better partnerships across the board,” he stated.
The envoy emphasized that the trade value could grow significantly with stronger collaboration between both nations, particularly in sectors beyond oil.
