The Nigerian aviation industry is on the brink of a significant transformation with the much-anticipated commissioning of the Joint User Hydrant Installation 2 (JUHI-2), set to be inaugurated on October 17, 2024. This state-of-the-art facility, located off the Murtala Muhammed International Airport road in Lagos, will stand as the country’s largest airside jet fuel depot, marking a pivotal development in aviation fuel supply management.
Mrs. Patience Dappa, Group Managing Director of Masters Energy and Chairperson of the JUHI-2 Board, expressed enthusiasm about the new depot’s role as a critical storage and supply hub for jet fuel. “The JUHI-2 will ensure a steady and reliable fuel supply to Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), MMA2, MMA1, and nearby airbases, thereby supporting the growth and efficiency of Nigeria’s aviation sector,” she stated.
Mr. Abiola Lawal, MD/CEO of Eterna Plc and Chairman of the JUHI-2 Commissioning Committee, further emphasized the facility’s importance. He noted that JUHI-2 is designed to accommodate a wide array of aviation operations, including domestic and international flights, cargo services, hajj operations, business jets, as well as both scheduled and non-scheduled flights. “This state-of-the-art depot will significantly enhance aviation operations, meeting the fuel demands of a wide range of flight activities,” Lawal added.
The commissioning of JUHI-2 is anticipated to streamline fuel supply logistics, reduce operational delays, and bolster the overall efficiency of Nigeria’s aviation ecosystem. As the country positions itself as a key player in the West African aviation market, the successful launch of JUHI-2 is expected to attract more airlines and enhance passenger confidence.
With this milestone, Nigeria is set to witness a transformative shift in aviation fuel management, paving the way for increased connectivity and growth within the industry.
