The Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Taiwo Oyedele, has expressed optimism that Nigeria’s ongoing tax reforms will succeed through sustained engagement with key industry stakeholders, including the National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies (NANTA).
Speaking in Lagos on Monday while receiving a NANTA delegation led by its President, Yinka Folami, Oyedele stressed that continuous education, dialogue, and strategic collaboration with trade groups are essential to bridging information gaps and ensuring proper compliance within the tax ecosystem.
“Our committee has met with several multi-layered organizations, including airlines. From what we have done here today—opening another frontier of understanding—I am optimistic that our tax reforms will be successful,” Oyedele said. He advised NANTA members to maintain proper documentation of account turnover and banking records to avoid tax liabilities.
Folami highlighted concerns among travel agencies about multiple taxation, especially charges embedded in airline tickets that often lead to double taxation. He called for clearer interpretation of levies and taxes and encouraged sustained engagement with the Presidential Committee and relevant agencies, particularly the Nigerian Revenue Service (NRS, formerly FIRS).
The visit evolved into a detailed tax policy review session. Folami also invited Oyedele to serve as Speaker at NANTA’s 50th Anniversary and Annual General Meeting in Ibadan in April, targeting members involved in religious tourism such as Hajj and Umrah.
Meanwhile, NANTA announced the results of its Lagos Zonal elections, with most immediate past executives returned unopposed. Re-elected officers include Yinka Olapade as Vice President; Chinwe Eluche as Zonal Secretary; Enai Biboere Glory as Treasurer; Fatai Moshood Abiola as Financial Secretary; Toyin Ojo as Zonal Internal Auditor; and Yewande Philip Ogunbiyi as Publicity Secretary.
The elections were supervised by members of the Zone’s Board of Trustees and observed by the National Executive Council. Results from other zones are expected in due course.
