OPay, Nigeria’s leading financial technology company, has launched its CyberLabs Project as part of efforts to deepen digital education and innovation across Nigerian universities. The launch coincided with the first anniversary of its ₦1.2 billion Scholarship Programme, a decade-long initiative under its Empowering Futures agenda.
The event, themed “Empowering Futures 2025”, brought together representatives of benefitting universities, students, and education stakeholders to celebrate the progress of the company’s strategic education support programme.
Speaking at the event, Elizabeth Wang, Chief Commercial Officer of OPay, said the scholarship initiative remains a core pillar of the company’s social impact strategy, while complementary programmes like CyberLabs are designed to strengthen capacity development and digital literacy among students.
“Through the CyberLabs Project, we are not only upgrading university technology facilities but also creating platforms where students can learn directly from some of the best minds in the industry.
Our goal is to bridge the gap between academia and real-world innovation, ensuring Nigerian students are equipped with the knowledge and tools to thrive in today’s technology-driven world,” Wang said.
Also speaking, Itoro Udo, the firm’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Manager, reaffirmed OPay’s commitment to building a financial ecosystem that empowers people and creates shared value, with education positioned as a key driver of national development.
“Education is the future of society, and students are the builders of that future. By investing in both learning and technology, OPay will continue to demonstrate its role as a catalyst for inclusive growth in Nigeria,” Udo stated.
Several Vice-Chancellors of participating institutions commended OPay’s sustained commitment to education and digital empowerment.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi, praised the company for investing in youth and digital inclusion.
“We are proud to partner with OPay to open the doors of opportunity for our students. When we equip young minds with digital-financial tools, we’re not only supporting their studies, we’re enabling them to meaningfully participate in tomorrow’s economy,” she said.
The CyberLabs Project aims to modernise ICT infrastructure across universities and foster hands-on innovation in emerging technologies. Together with the ₦1.2 billion scholarship programme, the initiative underscores OPay’s commitment to empowering the next generation of digital innovators in Nigeria.
