Modular refinery operators in Nigeria have made an appeal to the Federal Government to eliminate numerous fees associated with locally refined Automotive Gas Oil, commonly known as diesel, in an effort to curb the escalating cost of this essential commodity.
Diesel prices have been steadily rising over the past few months, adversely affecting economic activities across various sectors, especially in the downstream oil industry, where this situation has disrupted the operations of numerous filling stations.
Oil marketers have consistently expressed concerns about the exorbitant cost of diesel, which has made it challenging for them to transport products from tank farms in the southern region to filling stations in the north, without having to increase the prices of the transported products.
In a bid to alleviate the burden of diesel costs, particularly those produced domestically by modular refineries, the operators of these facilities, represented by the Crude Oil Refinery-Owners Association of Nigeria, have urged the Federal Government to eliminate the array of fees imposed on the commodity.
This plea was made during a visit to the office of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, in Abuja, as the operators sought solutions to the mounting challenges associated with diesel pricing.
