The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has made notable progress on critical electricity transmission infrastructure projects designed to enhance power supply, reliability, and capacity in Kaduna and its surrounding areas.
At a press briefing held at the TCN regional office in Kaduna, Engr. Nasir Mansur S. Fada, General Manager Transmission, Kaduna Region, reiterated TCN’s commitment to delivering stable and efficient electricity to the region.
One of the highlighted projects is the 330kV Double Circuit Kudenda-Mando transmission line, which upon completion will evacuate 215 megawatts (MW) from the Kudenda Power Station to the 330/132/33kV substation in Mando. This infrastructure upgrade is expected to significantly improve the power supply to Kaduna and environs.
However, Engr. Fada noted that the project’s pace has been slowed by ongoing compensation disputes with Projects Affected Persons (PAPs). “As you are aware, there has been a lot of back and forth between TCN and PAPs in both Mando and Kudenda communities regarding compensation,” he explained. “We consider these communities critical stakeholders in the success of our projects.”
While compensation has been paid to the majority of affected individuals in Kudenda, some residents have rejected offers, citing undervaluation of their land or exclusion from the enumeration process.
TCN continues to engage with all stakeholders to resolve outstanding issues and ensure timely completion of the project, which is crucial for boosting Kaduna’s power infrastructure and meeting growing electricity demand.
